In over three months, from November 2021 to January 2022, U-Reporters showed that youth can be key allies to support recovery actions. By joining UNICEF emergency response, young people contributed to distributing school kits in three regions in southern Haiti: Grand’Anse, Sud, and Nippes, which were seriously devastated by the 7.2 magnitude earthquake in 2021.
By participating voluntarily, 30 U-Reporters collaborated with UNICEF Haiti staff and reached 270 schools where they distributed 70,000 kits to school children and 1,600 kits to teachers.
“Education is the foundation for the evolution of all communities. I was both proud and happy to have participated in the distribution of school kits in Grand'Anse. My greatest motivation is the satisfaction of the children in need,” said Santia, 20, U-Reporter in Grand’Anse.
